COMING INTO THE 2022-2023 SEASON, THE SAN MARCOS LADY RATTLER SOCCER TEAM WAS LOOKING TO IMPROVE UPON THEIR 3-16-1 RECORD IN 2022.
“We started off last season with a new coach, so there was an adjustment period,” said senior center back Sadie Helgeson. “But eventually it took us realizing it was up to us to do the work. We had a great offseason in order to have a great season this year.”
For second-year head coach Kassi Hormuth, the change could be felt early on in the season.
“I knew we had individual talent, early on,” said Hormuth. “And as we brought that together, I could just see it more and more. The grit and desire as we played together.”
The results have paid off for the Lady Rattlers, who finished third in their first year in District 27-6A with a 10-8-4 record. San Marcos fell in the Bi-District round of the UIL playoffs to Reagan.
It was a tough season for the boys’ soccer team. In a season with multiple losses by one goal and five ties, the Rattlers ended the season2-9-5 while going 1-5-4 in district play.
